Fabio Cannavaro Biography

Italian professional footballer Fabio Cannavaro is the centre back of Al-Ahli Dubai. He was born in Naples, Italy on 13th September 1973. He began his career in Italy and won 1999 UEFA Cup and two Coppa Italias there but after that he spent a long time at Parma. In 2007 and 2008 he won La Liga titles and also played a season for Juventus and then joined Al-Ahli club.

Cannavaro passed a very memorable time with Italian national team and they won Under-21 European Championships twice. Due to his outstanding performances he became team captain in 1997. In 2006 and 2009 matches especially during the 2006 FIFA World Cup he played a major role for the victory of his team. On 25th June 2010 he issued a statement regarding his retirement and he took the step after 2010 FIFA World Cup knock-out stages failure.

In 2006 he won the award of FIFA World Player of the Year and by winning the award he has become the first ever defender who received it. Cannavaro was born to Pasquale Cannavaro and Gelsomina Costanzo. His father was a clerk and his mother was working as a maid. During his childhood he played for Bagnoli and then joined the national team.

He is married to Daniela Cannavaro and the couple has three children together. His brother is also a professional footballer and he plays for Napoli.

Cannavaro has founded a charity foundation “Fondazione Cannavaro Ferrara” with his friend Napoletano Ciro Ferrara. It works for surgery and special cancer cases in local hospitals.
